Key Events in the History of The Contributionship

1752 The Contributionship was founded by Benjamin Franklin and a group of prominent citizens.
1763 Directors of the Contributionship vote to pool interest on contributors' deposits. Future losses would be paid out of this common account.
1768 The Pennsylvania assembly grants The Contributionship permission to incorporate.
1810 The practice of renewing policies after seven years gives way to the unique "perpetual" policy. One deposit would insure a dwelling from fire loss in perpetuity.
1835 The Contributionship purchases the property at 212 South Fourth Street and commissions Thomas U. Walter to design and build the company's office.
1897 Thanks to sound management, the company is able to commence paying "safe and prudent" cash dividends on deposits. Though not guaranteed, dividends have been paid every year since.
1960 Noting the trend toward multi-risk homeowners insurance, The Contributionship forms a subsidiary company to write such coverage, thus extending the types of protection available to policyholders.
1983 The Contributionship further expands its range of insurance products with the introduction of a Perpetual Homeowners Policy. An initial cash deposit grants you all the benefits of multi-risk homeowners insurance "in perpetuity."
1991 PC Security changed its trade name to Vector Security.
